My favourite celebration of the year is fast approaching. I’m talking about Chinese New Year (CNY) of course, this year is the year of the snake and it falls on the 10th of February. I’m posting about it well ahead of the game given the large number of Chinese and Vietnamese communities in Melbourne planning to host street festivals in honour of the event. There are going to be 9 in total this year with the first one kicking off celebrations this coming weekend, Sunday 13 Jan, in St Albans. See this link for a list of all the street festivals and the dates they are being held.
As always, I will make a concerted effort to attend as many of these street festivals as possible. To eat mainly, but also to see the lion dances and the big dragon parade in the city. Hope you get to go to one or more of these events to soak in the atmosphere and eat some yummy hawker treats. Here are some scenes from last year’s CNY events to give you an idea of what to expect at these things.
Happy CNY

Happy new year to you too! How come Crown isn’t doing anything this year?

Not sure about that. I looked on the Crown website but they haven’t mentioned anything. Maybe it’s still early? It would be strange if they don’t host their user hawker bazaar along South Bank!

Recent visit to Crown and I saw posters up saying that the CNY hawker bazaar is back in 2013 – this weekend actually from 8 Feb thru to 10 Feb. Get your eats on at southbank if you’re in the area
